Not only did the trap not spring in an efficient manner, it dislodging the support stick wasn't as easy as I'd hoped.  Watch the action by clicking the video above.  You'll need RealPlayer to see it.  Also, it may play better if you right-mouse-click the link and choose "save as."  That'll download the file so you can run it from your hard drive.

Tricky tie job

First I widened the death chamber so that the falling traps wouldn't hit the wall on the other side.  Then  I shortened the stick that supported the wall of traps.  I used a forked twig to hold the main support stick up.  Then I tied fishing line to the forked twig.  One line went straight down to a dangling pretzel.  The other went diagonally down to a hook, and then looped back to the pretzel.  A third piece of line went from the pretzel and attached to the wall.  If the pretzel was moved in any direction the stings would be pulled, the sticks would slip from their precarious perch, and the traps would fall.

I felt like a surgeon tying and snipping the string without moving the stick.
A mouse sneeze could set this off.

Mmmmm.... Mice love pretzels!

I did not, I repeat, DID NOT test my new setup.  I honestly feared this trap.  It sprung several times on me.  Setting eight mouse traps, then moving them upside down and leaning them on a couple twigs with several beers in your stomach is as hard as it sounds.  The sucker hurts!  Every time I had to reset it I grew more and more afraid of it.  I felt like I was defusing a bomb.  I was literally sweating and talking to myself during the setup.  If I got snapped one or two more times I would have scrapped this trap altogether.  It just wasn't worth it.

Gonna getcha!
Once I finally set it up I added some bird seed and tiptoed out of the shed.

The results...
